Charlotte decided it was time to stop smoking because she wanted to feel healthier as she got older. Although she had tried to quit before, she admitted that before her first appointment with Smokefree Sheffield, she did not believe she would be successful this time.

To support her quit attempt, Charlotte used nicotine patches at first, followed by nicotine lozenges. She found the patches very helpful, although she joked that the nightmares they caused were not quite as enjoyable. The lozenges also helped, although she felt they were a little too strong for her personally.

Alongside stop smoking medication, Charlotte found that keeping herself busy with gaming and staying motivated played a huge part in helping her stay smokefree.

One of the things Charlotte enjoys most about being a non-smoker is something very simple but meaningful. She says her mum now hugs her and tells her that she smells nice, which makes her feel proud of how far she has come.

Since quitting smoking, Charlotte has noticed positive changes in her health too. She says she no longer gets out of breath as easily as she used to, and overall she feels healthier. She has also been able to save money since stopping smoking.

Charlotte says the support she received from Smokefree Sheffield made a real difference to her journey. Knowing she could call her advisor whenever she needed help or advice gave her reassurance and encouragement throughout the process.

Charlotte’s story shows that even when you doubt yourself at the beginning, quitting smoking is possible with the right support, determination, and motivation.
