I’m a 67-year-old and can finally say I’m a non-smoker or, if you like, I no longer smoke.
I’ve always been one of those smokers who believed if I quit, something drastic would happen to me, and I’d fall ill, or my body would pack in or something along those lines.
Having been a smoker for over 50 years, I never thought in a million years I’d be saying I’m now 16 weeks smoke-free and feeling better than ever. I still feel a little chesty sometimes, but nothing like when I was smoking. Other than that, I can see a difference, and there's no sign of that recurring chest infection.
If it wasn’t for the worst chest infection I have ever had, I would most likely be still smoking to this day, telling people how I’ve smoked for too long to stop now and how much I like smoking! The last one made me think about my health, and I decided to try and control it, and I’ve never looked back. It was not easy initially, but before I knew it, I was four weeks quit and was well on my way.
When you feel ready, I suggest picking up the phone and contacting Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale, as it worked for me.
